Anger Management for Children

Anger is an emotion normally expressed to show ones displeasure or dislike for a situation or a person.

Anger when shown moderately is healthy as it helps vent out the unexpressed frustration.  This is particularly important when comes to anger management for children.

However, when it gets out of control and there are frequent out bursts then it becomes a matter of concern and your child may need to pick up anger management skills.

Anger is an emotion expressed often by children because of innumerable reasons. Moreover, it becomes important as adults to address it seriously and consider anger management for children. 

A fight with another child, social boycotting, teasing, instigation, a bad performance despite working hard, humiliation, negligence etc are few common causes of anger in children. 

However, one of the most common factors is their frustration over adults calling all the shots in their life. Children feel helpless as their actions and opinions are judged and then considered accordingly by grownups. 

The feeling of bondage angers them change of any kind like shifting to a new city, school or city too leads to lot of frustration as dissociations from former environment and people generates insecurity. Moreover a new place is quite intimidating furthering their trauma.

Children express anger through various modes like facial expressions, screaming, shouting, physically, verbally abusing or harming their own self.  These signs and symptoms are not healthy and hence it is important to consider anger management for children. 

Negligence may cause a permanent dent on their social and behavioral interaction. It may also make them cynical about everything in life and they may not be able to trust anybody or anything in life.

It is important to make children realize that the emotion that they are feeling is anger. Once they realize their feeling then it becomes mandatory to question them over what kind of action they were contemplating for emoting their feelings and then guiding them accordingly. 

Sit with them and analyze the situation to make them understand their negative actions.  This is part and parcel of anger management for children and it should be conducted in a manner that is acceptable to our children.

Anger management strategies for children
Talking always helps and it is one of the best way of anger management techniques and anger management skills.   

It is very important for teachers as well as parents to build up a trust in children so that they can come up to you at any point in their life and discuss things that are bothering them. 

Talking also helps in calming them and rationalizing their thought process. Guide them in curtailing their anger through counting technique and deep breathing exercises.  In view of the importance of talking, it should form part of the activities of anger management for children.

Besides, it is also important to dissociate child from the person or situation that is angering him. When the child calms down then talk. Another important technique for anger management for teens is to distract the child through music or stories to clarify the situation in their mind. 

If you child is expressing anger more frequently through aggression like hitting, boxing, punching or through verbal abuse, it is likely that your child is having anger disorder.  

Under these circumstances, punishment is become mandatory when it comes to anger management for children. Let the child realize that these expressions are not welcome and their action will not be tolerated.

Children are our future and they should be handled with kids gloves. Hence, one need not consider anger in kids as a phase of life and ignore. This might affect the shaping up of their future.

Anger management for children is a very important factor to be considered and psychologists and psychiatrists swear by it. Make your child a happy being by addressing their issues.
